Why It Matters
In Uganda’s remote provinces, women and children walk for hours to fetch water from unsafe sources—ponds, swamps, and shallow pits. These journeys steal time, risk health, and burden generations.
Every borehole saves lives, restores dignity, and creates jobs. It’s not just water—it’s transformation.
The Solution
Our boreholes are built by hand—using local tools, local labor, and Ministry-approved methods. Each one serves 250–500 people and creates 10–15 jobs. It’s scalable, repeatable, and rooted in community.
From site selection to pump installation, every step is guided by Uganda’s Shallow Wells Technology Manual and delivered by trained crews. No machines. No shortcuts. Just skill, pride, and purpose.
How a Borehole Comes to Life
Every borehole is a story of transformation—crafted by hand, guided by Uganda’s Shallow Wells Technology Manual, and delivered by local crews with pride and precision.
1. Site Selection
Community leaders and Water User Committees identify the most urgent locations.
2. Manual Drilling
Crews dig by hand using axes, shovels, or augers—reaching depths of 15–30 meters.
3. Casing & Gravel Pack
PVC casing is lowered and surrounded by clean river gravel to protect the aquifer.
4. Sanitary Seal & Apron
Clay or cement grout seals the borehole; a concrete apron and soak pit are built.
5. Pump Installation
Afridev hand pump is installed, tested, and handed over to the community.
6. Commissioning & Training
Water User Committee receives training, a maintenance kit, and formal handover—ensuring ownership, sustainability, and pride.
